Priorities

Are you caught up in a whirlwind of tasks and feeling overwhelmed? Is it all too much? When that happens, it’s easy to forget the strategic elements and moments of reflection that actually move us forward. When we’re stressed, it can be hard to organize our tasks in the right order—to simply prioritize correctly. Here’s a template to help!

Print it out and use it over and over again. Share it with people who you think might find it helpful.

Defense Signals

An important part of communication is really listening to what’s being said, but what if you don’t know what to look for? Take, for example, a situation where you’re about to implement a change and aren’t quite sure how it will be received. To improve your ability to pick up on signals, there’s now a template that can help you. Download this template and compare your colleagues’ behavior with the defensive signals on the list. Maybe you’ll now notice things you didn’t realize were there before?

The second tip for using the template is to reflect after meetings—with the list in hand—and consider whether you observed any of these behaviors.

A third tip is to check in with yourself every now and then!

Good luck!!

Evaluate the meeting

Your meetings—are they fast-paced and efficient? Or have they come to a standstill—as sluggish as syrup? Are you having fun? Are they productive? Who’s doing the talking? And how are decisions made?

Have you ever thought about how you make decisions during meetings? This template helps you reflect on your decision-making processes and how you conduct meetings. It’s a good idea to review the template before, during, and after the meeting to ensure you get the best possible results. If everyone at the meeting has the template, you’ll all share the responsibility for having productive meetings and making well-considered decisions.

Good luck!

Expectations & Concerns

"Expectations & Fears" is perhaps a slightly less common template, but it's surprisingly effective.

To successfully achieve a goal, we need to keep track of the journey itself. What are the expectations of all participants? And what are their concerns?

The basic idea is to always address expectations and concerns before starting a task. We use this approach when we begin working with a group, but also during internal meetings.

Good luck!

The Wheel of Work

It’s hard to get everything done, so how should you prioritize? We use the “Work Wheel” tool to assess your current situation. It provides an overview of your work life right now. It helps you create a strategic plan for what your future goals should look like.

After time off, it can be helpful to catch up on how things are going. Or after a project wraps up. Maybe before a change is about to begin? Yes, it’s not a bad idea to dip your toe in the water to see how things are going.

We also use this when a fiscal year has ended.

Good luck!
